Today’s AppeTeaser
September 8, 1900 when a hurricane with winds of 120 mph struck Galveston, Texas, killing over 8,000 persons, making it the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. The hurricane and tidal wave that followed destroyed over 2,500 buildings. As a result of the disaster, a man-made seawall was built to help with flooding, but visits to the area show how storm surge continues to impact the area. Due to its devastation, the Galveston Hurricane is used as the disaster American hurricane landfalls are compared to.
